Sister Cantaloupe aka Trina Jeffries
Known as Trina Jeffries is a native of Dallas, Texas, with an extended
family of fans that crosses the United States of America. Traveling full
time as a character comic in the Christian/Gospel market, she has become
somewhat of a household name as the character Sister Cantaloupe. By the
third grade she was well on her way to becoming a great entertainer when she
won her first oratorical contest. Trina has made a vow that God would be her
first love and acting her second.
“Sister Cantaloupe” was created in 1986 she is a cat eyeglasses
wearing, loud colorful and loud speaking church-going sister.
Often compared to Tyler Perry’s character “Madiea”. This church
busybody was created some 20 years ago and has been in every
religious community you can imagine. Trina the writer of all of
her original one-woman acts has left audiences rolling in the
aisles with her unique style of comedy and drama. She has been
deemed the “First Lady of Gospel Comedy” with three award
winning hit videos and CD’s in your stores now, Trina has
recorded five Video/CD/DVD and are nationally distributed (Go
Cantaloupe Go -1996, Laffing Out Loud with the Lord - 1998,
“Un-Be-Weave-able - 2002”, and her latest hit Armed and
Dangerous - 2006 & Dr. Bobby Jones All Star Comedy (released on
LionsGate) - 2004. Trina was awarded Best New Artist and Best
Video.
Traveling fulltime hosting events, performing as a headliner,
Trina has sold out shows in Nassau Bahamas, Bermuda, and from
the East Coast to the West Coast. She has also toured and
appeared with most of the top names in the Gospel and R&B
industry such as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond,
John P. Kee, The Winans, Jennifer Holiday, Dr. Bobby Jones, Pebo
Bryson, Stephanie Mills, Brandy, Stevie Wonder, and R. Kelly,
Steve Harvey and Ricky Smiley to name a few. She has appeared on
numerous television and radio shows including BET’s “The Tavis
Smiley Show”, BET’s “Dr. Bobby Jones Show”, “The Jenny Jones
Show” and more. She’s been featured in magazines such as “Sister
2 Sister”, Gospel Flavor, Gospel Today and more.
Trina is involved in motion pictures, television and magazine
publication, and others, and with her versatility she herself
has written two movies, she has written plays, she has also
produced & directed. She has also toured two years in the play,
“Friends and Lover” with stars such as Leon (Waiting to Exhale),
Mel Jackson (Soul Food), Megal Neuyes, (Jawwana Man) Monica
Calhoun (The Best Man) which is now at Block Buster & Casino
starring Gerald LeVert and Kelly Price, she was also in “Leap of
Faith” starring Steve Martin and “Necessary Roughness” starring
Sinbad. Trina is quick to say, “God is the only Daddy I’ve known
and ‘He’ spoil’s me so, to God be the Glory”.
