Proverbs 18:16 “A man’s gift maketh room for him and bringeth him
before great men.”
Stephon a native of Chicago and a preacher’s kid, has learned
early how to see the “funny” in everyday life situations. His life
experiences helped him to appreciate a good joke and the joy of
making others laugh. He knew he would someday make a career out of
helping people experiencing joy.
He began his career at an early age performing in grammar and high
school talent shows. In the fall of 1987, Stephon received a
scholarship in Theatre Technology from Kennedy-King College in
Chicago, Illinois. By the spring of 1988 he made his first debut on
stage in a theatre production of “One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show.”
Other productions to follow included “Stardust Review”, “The Wiz”,
“Fences”, “The Color Museum” and “Chicago”. During his performance
in “Chicago”, Comedian Bernie Mac was in the audience and after the
show Bernie encouraged Stephon to pursue stand-up comedy. By
1990, Stephon was performing at many different comedy-clubs
in Chicago and throughout Illinois.
In 1991, Stephon moved to California to pursue his dream of
being an actor. His debut in film was in “Menace To Society”
following that he worked behind the scenes in other box-office hits.
Stephon realized his “discomfort” with the ungodly
relationships and lifestyles that the industry offered, soon after
he returned to Chicago.
The bible says in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he
should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Stephon
returned to what he knew and began to search for a relationship with
God. In the summer of 1997, Stephon rededicated his life to
Christ and began attending Triedstone Full Gospel Baptist Church,
under the leadership of Bishop Simon Gordon. In July 1998,
Stephon accepted his call into the ministry and was licensed on
New Year’s Eve, 1999. During that time he served as Lead Servant
over Triedstone’s Singles and Men’s ministries. His dedication to
the work of the Lord makes him one of Triedstone’s busiest men;
currently he is actively serving as Lead Servant of the Armour
Bearer ministry and Bishop Gordon’s personal Armour Bearer. In 2005,
He was elevated to be the Director of Protocol of the State of
Illinois under the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship
International under the leadership of Presiding Bishop Paul S.
Morton. and State of Illinois Bishop Simon Gordon.
Stephon’s pursuit of christian comedy began to take him to a
higher road for God’s glory. He decided instead of just performing
in nightclubs and comedy clubs he began to go where his ministry &
audience needed him. Stephon began to minister through comedy
for churches and faith based venues throughout Illinois, Indiana,
Michigan, Georgia, Florida and Wisconsin. By January 2005,
Stephon had ministered to over 100 of churches throughout the
United States with his unique style of comedy.
As a preacher’s kid he had seen and experienced the many facets of
our African American churches. Stephon has developed a unique
style of comedy that deals directly with the realistic humor of
church folk and our issues. His comedy ranges from the church
Mothers giving long testimonies and singing songs no one knows the
words to; to Deacons who wear outdated fashion and render lengthy
prayers; to choirs that bring forth songs of praise with their own
unique style; to preachers that deliver sermons that come from the
Movie of the Week! As Stephon delivers the jokes he admits
and proclaims “I Got Issues”.
Stephon creates a clear example of what the bibles means when
it says, “a merry heart doeth good like medicine” He has been cited
as: “One of the most exciting and talented Christian comedians on
the circuit today!”
